So it seems as if the EY deforestation legislation is being delayed. On October 2, the EU Commission announced its plan to delay the EUDR’s start. This delay must of course be approved by the European Parliament and the Council before it can take effect, but expectations are that it will pass. If it is approved, the new deadlines will be: Large Companies: December 30, 2025 Small Enterprises: June 30, 2026 The EU DR is part of a series of policies and regulations in the sustainability arena. This one deals with deforestation and is set to impact commodities like wood, paper, palm oil, cattle/beef, cocoa, soy, rubber, and coffee – to start with. Any business importing, exporting or marketing these raw materials in the EU market will need to show complete traceability, conduct due diligence, and keep records for 5-years that include details of all transactions including quantities and even geographic coordinates of locations.
