SAP Update: Rolling Out New Rural Sourcing Management Application

I recently took a briefing call from SAP speaking with the VP for Agribusiness and Commodity Management, Ms. Anja Strothkaemper. At the moment, SAP is busy implementing a number of SAP Commodity Management projects aiming to establish them as future reference accounts. SAP continues to see a strong customer demand and is preparing a number of new product and functionality initiatives and another release is planned early 2017. One of the most intriguing product initiatives that she shared with me was the SAP Rural Sourcing Management application. This is an integrated, cloud-based solution running on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform that combines mobile and desktop access connecting smallholder farmers and suppliers in developing countries with the supply chain of global agribusinesses. It currently covers farmer registration, surveys and e-procurement and integrates geo information. The product is squarely aimed at agricultural supply chains and on the mobile side, supports more remote locations utilizing SMS technology. Recently, the product has been rolled out at Barry Callebaut to 65,000 small-scale cocoa farmers in Cote d’Ivoire.
