One area that is changing massively in commodities and generally is access to data. The amount and types of data accessible are expanding at prolific rates and managing that data is increasing in importance as we discovered in a recent episode of CTRMRadio. This week, I spoke with Spire Global, a company that designs, builds and operates the world’s largest constellation of multipurpose satellites. As its website says, “with our proven history in space infrastructure, we provide you with unprecedented access and insights from the ultimate vantage point – space.” Spire is an example of how the data universe is expanding massively for commodity players – both new types of data as well as more detailed versions of existing data like weather date. As Gerald van der Grijn, product manager for Spire, told me, it collects things like weather data, ship position data, aircraft position data and much more and it builds satellites on request to collect that data.
