The demand for external risk systems, alongside the risk management capabilities of CTRMs, is growing steadily. There are several reasons for this trend. First, real-time capabilities have become increasingly important, yet many CTRMs lack sufficient support for real-time risk management. Second, there is a general shift toward using ecosystems of best-of-breed tools rather than relying on monolithic CTRM systems. Moreover, in times of political instability high market volatility leads to additional focus on risk management. Recently, I had the opportunity to view a demonstration of a modern real-time risk management system by Topaz. This tool meets all the typical requirements of contemporary external risk management systems.
