Last week, I caught up with Austrian ETRM software vendor – ComFin – and I spoke with Mr. Gerald Neher (CEO) and Mr. Daniel Gallar (Bus. Dev.). The most interesting piece of news was ComFin’s recent win and addition of a new global client on TheBulldog platform. The new client is headquartered in Singapore but has global operations and ComFin have been busy helping the new client get implemented in three locations – The Netherlands, Singapore and USA. The new deal was finalized in late 2014 and The Bulldog was chosen for its superior physical commodity functionality. According to Mr. Neher, the precipitous fall in crude oil prices has meant that there is a greater focus on risk management in the sector and that is driving companies to look for ETRM platforms that can help them with that new risk emphasis, but at a lower total cost of ownership. With margins tight, ComFin expect to see this trend continue for the foreseeable future and view its two platforms (TheBulldog and Comcore) as offering functionally rich and cost competitive, modular platforms.
