As analysts, we often get approached by vendors in the space or looking at it, who want to alert us to their offerings. This happened recently as Cognite, an industrial software company that creates software for oil and gas, power and utilities, renewable energy, manufacturing and other asset-heavy industries, alerted us to its Cognite Data Fusion software. Cognite Data Fusion is an “Industrial DataOps software, makes asset data more accessible and meaningful to humans and machines, delivering trusted data and insights to unlock opportunities in real-time, reduce costs, and improve the integrity and sustainability of your operations,” according to Cognite’s website. In recent months, it has had success with using the software as the basis for a pre-trade analytics forecasting solution in power and gas. It is also being used in oil and gas for liquid movements, we were informed. They kindly provided a demonstration of the software. For me, the solution is a fully-fledged data management solution with all the sophistication that you might expect around bringing in data sources, enriching and validating data, and manipulating and visualizing the data using third-party tools and solutions.
